چکیده

Spatiotemporal chaos (STC) exhibited by the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky (KS) equation is investigated analytically and numerically. An eeective stochastic equation belonging to the KPZ universality class is constructed by incorporating the chaotic dynamics of the small KS system in a coarse-graining procedure. The bare parameters of the eeective theory are computed approximately. Stability of the system is shown to be mediated by space-time defects that are accompanied by stochasticity. The method of analysis and the mechanism of stability may be relevant to a class of STC problems.

Nonlinear Diiusion Control of Spatiotemporal Chaos in the Complex Ginzburg Landau Equation Typeset Using Revt E X

The role of nonlinear diiusion terms in the stability of periodic solutions in the regime of spatio temporal chaos is studied. The stabilization of unstable plane waves in the Complex Ginzburg Landau equation in weakly chaotic regimes such as phase turbulence and spatiotemporal intermittency or in strong chaotic ones like defect turbulence is demonstrated.

Transition to spatiotemporal chaos via stationary branching shocks and holes

Spatiotemporal chaos in the complex Ginzburg–Landau equation is known to be associated with a rapid increase in the density of defects, which are isolated points at which the solution amplitude is zero and the phase is undefined. Recently there have been significant advances in understanding the details and interactions of defects and other coherent structures, and in the theory of convective a...

Defect–Defect Correlation Functions, Generic Scale Invariance, and the Complex Ginzburg–Landau Equation

We present a calculation of defect–defect correlation functions in the defect turbulence regime of the complex Ginzburg–Landau equation. Our results do not agree with the predictions of generic scale invariance. Using the topological nature of the defects, we prove that defect–defect correlations cannot decay as slowly as predicted by generic scale invariance Typeset using REVTEX 1 Spatiotempor...

Nonlinear diffusion control of spatiotemporal chaos in the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation

Under nonequilibrium conditions, a spatially extended system often undergoes a transition from a uniform state to a state with spatial variation, usually referred to as a pattern. Their formation is generally associated with nonlinear effects, which in may cases can lead to qualitatively different phenomena such as spatiotemporal chaos @1# ~STC!. Loosely, the term spatiotemporal chaos is common...

1 9 Se p 20 02 Penta - Hepta Defect Chaos in a Model for Rotating Hexagonal Convection

In a model for rotating non-Boussinesq convection with mean flow we identify a regime of spatiotemporal chaos that is based on a hexagonal planform and is sustained by the induced nucleation of dislocations by penta-hepta defects. The probability distribution function for the number of defects deviates substantially from the usually observed Poisson-type distribution. It implies strong correlat...
